Once you receive your appointment letter, hopefully for your desired health center, you need to get ready for your posting. If, in case, which I think happens in the majority of cases, you do not get posted to a center of choice, you can request the DOHS for a change. However, this can turn out to be an annoying, long and tedious process unless you have very influential sources.
The easiest way is to go wherever you are posted; however, there is a possibility of getting posted in a very remote health center with problems with electricity, network, and water supply. Yet, I think Nepal is really developing in many areas, and the chances of such centers are less than before! Hmm... we really need proper statistics on the condition of health centers in Nepal.
Back when I had to list down five health centers of choice, I made a promise to myself that no matter where I got posted, I'll just go there and serve in the same place for 2 years. Mostly because I believe everything happens for a reason. If some higher power chose this place for me, there is probably a good reason. To date, I have not regretted making that decision. Also, I guess I was lucky enough to get posted in a semi-rural health center with pretty good infrastructure.
Okay, back to context! Once you have finalized where you are going, here are a few things you should do before joining your center, which should be done within 30 days (बाटो म्याद ), or else you will have to get another appointment letter.
Know your Health Center
This is the first thing you need to do before getting ready to pack your belongings. I would really recommend visiting your center before going to settle. I was unable to do that because my center was a one-day ride from home. Now that I think of it, that is not too far. Call your center, and get in touch with seniors if available. Ask specifically of what you should get from home and what you can buy out there, the weather, water supply, electricity, which network runs best, internet facilities, and everything you need for a great stay.
Get a Citizen Investment Trust Account
Many come to know of Citizen Investment Trust (नागरिक लगानी कोष ) after getting settled. It is much easier if you get a form beforehand as you will have to get an authorized signature and stamp from the chief of your center and submit it back at the CIT Head Office located in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu. Getting a CIT account will enable you to save up to 33% of your salary directly into the CIT account without having to deduct tax. It also offers a pretty decent interest rate of 8% as of now.
